Introducing Mike Burke

Mike Burke has been working as Church Networker for CMS for over 2 years. Prior to that he was a Vicar in parish ministry for 20 years. Encouraging innovation in mission

During his time in parish ministry Mike helped the Diocese to explore ideas for creating fresh expressions of church in the city centre. Having explored parish based Café church he worked with the local Methodist Circuit in helping them to develop a new missional thinking and was involved in running a cafe church based at Costa Coffee. He has also facilitated a network for key workers in fresh expressions helping to explore new missional thinking and models of social enterprise as well as offering advice to senior clergy about new missional approaches and appointing pioneer ministers.

Mike has worked with UK churches to profile the work of CMS and provide personal support for global mission partners. He is experienced in writing appeal documents, grant funding applications and developing donor support. He has experience in working with multiple agencies in developing funding strategies for community based capital projects. He is currently working to help a local pioneer minister develop his supporter base. He recently spent time in Kuala Lumpur working with AsiaCMS to develop their fundraising and donor support strategies and infrastructure. This involved training staff in fundraising principles, developing supporter networks, planning events and preparing promotional materials and business plans.

Project management

Mike has worked in project management for ‘Faithworks’ developing social action projects working with regional Faith Forums. During his time at CMS he developed a significant understanding of new missional networks, alongside his knowledge of existing church structures and produced a number of mission resources for churches. He has worked as a community consultant for a youth work charity in Gloucester, formulating a strategic development plan. He also helped to set up a Civil Engineering Consultancy which sought to explore infrastructure projects in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Mission resources
